Meet Monica Goldklang

Monica Goldklang

Monica Goldklang, MD, is a 2014 ATS Foundation Research Program Awardee studying acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She’s committed to bringing the basic research mechanisms defined at the bench forward to patients.

With the protected research time provided by her Research Program Award, Dr. Goldklang was able to strengthen her NIH application and successfully compete for her K08 Mentored Career Development Award. She is now in the second year of her NIH grant.

Dr. Goldklang hopes to provide new therapies for patients with emphysema and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, and those within the larger COPD community.

“That’s what gets me up every morning and into the lab,” says Dr. Goldklang, “knowing the lab work has the potential to tremendously impact patients and their families.”
