Erick Forno

In 2013, the ATS Foundation and the Pediatrics Assembly established the Robert B. Mellins, MD, Outstanding Achievement Endowed Award honoring Dr. Mellins’ legacy as a founder of pediatric pulmonology.

The 2017 awardee of the Robert B. Mellins, MD, Outstanding Achievement Endowed Award is Erick Forno, MD, MPH, assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Forno completed medical school at Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Perú; residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Colorado; fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology at Children’s Hospital Boston; and a Master in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Forno’s main research interest is in childhood asthma, with particular focus on the epidemiology, characteristics, and underlying mechanisms of “obese asthma” in children.

“Dr. Erick Forno is an exceptional physician-scientist who has made outstanding contributions to the field of pediatric asthma. I have no doubt that Erick will become a leader in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine” – said Dr. Juan C. Celedón, professor of pediatrics, medicine, epidemiology, and human genetics, and chief of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine, Allergy, and Immunology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Congratulations, Dr. Forno!
