The ATS Methods in Epidemiologic, Clinical and Operations Research (MECOR) Program began in Latin America under the leadership of Sonia Buist, MD, and has since expanded across the globe to include Africa, China, India, Indonesia, Turkey, and Vietnam.
The MECOR Program is vital to filling the research-training gap among many physicians’ medical education in low and middle-income countries.
Your gift to MECOR Education supports training courses for ATS MECOR Program students.
Your gift to MECOR Research supports seed grants for outstanding MECOR graduates that allow them to transition from trainees to investigators.
MECOR students learn a variety of skills needed to become successful researchers, including research design, data collection, management and analysis, presentation skills, and manuscript preparation.
The capacity-building courses of MECOR have a ripple effect. Not only do the courses create powerful networks of lung-disease clinicians, researchers, and educators—they provide the basis for improving global public health policy.
With your support, MECOR graduates have developed research that...
- Led to a ban on sandblasting in clothing factories in Turkey;
- Launched effective smoking cessation efforts in Argentina; and
- Improved the quality of tuberculosis surveillance and treatment in Kenya, and so much more!
