The Faces of Lung DiseaseLung disease strikes people from the baby’s crib to the centenarian. Women are more prone to certain lung diseases than men, and vice versa. Where you live, how much money you make, the color of your skin and your family heritage are major factors in your lung health. Poor people living in urban areas are more at risk for a few particular lung issues, but the rich and famous are not immune. The Foundation of the American Thoracic Society is concerned about pneumonia, influenza, asthma, COPD, lung cancer, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, sleep apnea, cystic fibrosis, Alpha-1 antitrypsin, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), and lung cancer. Take a listen to these people, whose lives will be forever changed because lung disease touched them.
