ATS Guide to Wine Appreciation
A fine wine aficionado by avocation, ATS President Peter Wagner, M.D., wrote the ATS Guide to Wine Appreciation at the request of ATS Executive Director Carl Booberg to provide assistance in selecting quality wines, at every economic level, for every taste bud. As a thank-you to new givers, you can obtain a limited-edition
copy of the ATS Guide to Wine
Appreciation, by making a gift of $30 or more to the
Foundation of the American Thoracic
Society. The author heartily admits, "My cheap views on price affect my preferences, and hence my recommendations." He is a 13-year member of a wine tasting group in southern California. He does promise, my "recommendations ... satisfy three criteria: 1) they are reasonably predictable year after year; 2) they are usually available; and 3) are on the less expensive side, or at least have a good quality/price ratio." If you liked the 2004 movie "Sideways," you'll love this wine guide, and you'll recognize Dr. Wagner's expertise! In addition to the good doctor's own recommendations, the book details the process of evaluating wine, the scoring system for judging wine, features of the most common grape varietals when turned into wine, how to run a wine tasting session, and properly storing wine. |
