Name the Foundation of the American Thoracic Society in Your Will

Talk with your estate attorney about these various types of bequests:

  1. Percentage bequests -the donor may designate that Foundation of the ATS receive a specific amount expressed in terms of a percent of the estate;
  2. Residuary bequests -the donor may leave to the Foundation of the ATS all remaining property after debts, taxes, expenses and all other bequests have been satisfied;
  3. Specific bequests -the donor may designate that the Foundation of the ATS receive a specific dollar amount or a specific piece of property, including securities, real estate and other tangible personal property coming under the heading of property;
  4. Contingent bequests - the donor may specify that a bequest be made to the Foundation of the ATS under certain conditions.

You may wish to name the Foundation of the American Thoracic Society in your will. Please consider designating a percentage, specific dollar amount, or remainder of your estate to the Foundation.

Sample wording for bequest:

"I hereby give to the Foundation of the American Thoracic Society, a legally incorporated 501(c)(3), not for profit corporation, (name here the specific $ amount, percentage of my estate, or ‘the rest, residue and remainder of my estate’) for the (unrestricted use of the Foundation of the ATS or its successor organization, or a specific purpose of your choosing)."
