About Us

The Foundation of the American Thoracic Society's (ATS) mission:  expand research and education about the causes, treatments, and preventions for diseases that make it difficult to breathe.  Our efforts include all diseases concerning the lungs, bronchial airways, breath control and getting enough air to breathe. 

Science, a core value for us, forms the basis of patient care.  Science helps us understand health and disease, discover cures, and improve a patient's quality of life. 

ATS is recognized worldwide for its first-class medical and scientific journals.  The Society's dedicated focus on research is clearly displayed at its premier International Conference in pulmonary and critical care medicine.  This forum attracts over 16,000 of the world's top scientists to meet and share their latest work.
