The ATS Research Program

In late 2002, the ATS Board of Directors voted unanimously to create a new Research Program.  This was evidence of ATS further enhancing its strong commitment to the ideals of research. Since that historical moment, the ATS Research Program thrives and is steadily growing.

The Research Program operates under the critical guiding principles of partnership and collaboration. From the genesis of the Program, the ATS realized maximal progress is made in research if the Society works in harmony with other organizations focusing on the diagnosis, pathogenesis and treatment of lung disease.  In selecting research proposals to fund, the ATS sets research priorities and shares funding responsibilities with other medical, research, clinical, professional, industrial, patient, and nonprofit health organizations with similar interests in pulmonary and critical care diseases and disorders.

Funding for a new ATS Research Program is further evidence of the Society's long-standing commitment to this new knowledge.  The ATS Research Program depends on funding assistance from its partners and from generous individuals interested in assisting in the fight against lung disease. Since its beginning, the Program has grown steadily with new partners joining, and generous individuals lending support.  Every year, the ATS offers more grants to support more research, working steadily to the ultimate understanding and even curing lung disease.
