Meet Alex

Alexandra is a ninth grader and asthma patient. She received pulmonary medication in utero, and spent the first five months of her life in the NICU.

“When I was little, I used to think I was so much different because I had asthma so I would say—you’re not different than anyone else. You’re normal,” says Alex. She is optimistic her asthma will get better as science becomes more advanced.”

Alex has been a competitive gymnast, and loves to hike and dance. She enjoys science, research, and knowing how things work. She cried with excitement when her mom gave her a copy of Gray’s Anatomy.

Alex’s mother Julie is grateful for research innovations and evolutions in treatment, noting that, “you really can’t live a whole life when you’re concentrating just on breathing.”

Thank you, Alex and Julie, for sharing your story!
