I believe in the ATS, and I believe in research. This is why I feel privileged to chair the ATS Foundation. In its relatively short history, the Foundation has earned a reputation for supporting bright early career researchers. For every dollar we have awarded, our recipients have gone on to receive $13 more for their research.

Your Generosity at Work

Darcy Wagner

Darcy Wager, MD, received a 2016 ATS Foundation Research Grant that was pivotal for her career. Dr. Wagner says that the feedback she received from reviewers of her ATS grant proposal “has been extremely valuable in helping me think through my research project in different ways.” 

Since receiving the grant, Dr. Wagner, who was a fellow at Germany’s Comprehensive Pneumology Center, has started a new lab at Lund University in Sweden, where she is an assistant professor in experimental medical sciences. Continue...

Mary Kitlowski

Mary Kitlowski founded Running on Air to combat a feeling she got that “people on oxygen shouldn’t be heard or seen.” The group encourages those who need supplemental oxygen to live life to the fullest, whether that’s participating in races or being active in their communities.
